Why you’re about to lose Facebook likes

Why you'll be losing Likes on Facebook

Facebook has announced that there is a coming drop in the amount of likes most pages have. Don’t worry though, the reason behind it makes sense and will actually benefit your page in the long term.

The drop in fans will happen because Facebook will no longer count the Likes of deactivated and memorialized accounts.

According to Facebook there are two primary benefits to removing voluntarily deactivated and memorialized Facebook accounts from Pages’ like counts:

Business results: Removing inactive Facebook accounts from Page audience data gives businesses up-to-date insights on the people who actively follow their Page and makes it easier for businesses to find people like their followers through tools like lookalike audiences.
Consistency: We already filter out likes and comments generated by deactivated or memorialized accounts from individual Page posts, so this update keeps data consistent.
Of course we’re not looking forward to our numbers going down but that’s an irrational response. A more accurate audience will also be a more engaged audience, and a more engaged audience will better serve your content and your brand!
